Over the past five years the Region 11 DCD Community of Practice has been studying two instructional methods, the Four Block Literacy Model and the Nurtured Heart Approach. Four Block is based on the National Reading Panel report and is an evidence based practice for teaching reading to children. This approach has been shown to increase the literacy skills of children with emerging skills at all ranges of ability. The Nurtured Heart Approach is a best practice approach to proactive behavior management, character education and creating a positive classroom culture. DCD 101 is being offered to provide new members of the Community of Practice an opportunity to become familiar with both methods as we continue to develop our knowledge and skills in the coming school year.
