 Reaching ALL Students!

Dr. Duchess Harris, through experiences, research and placing current and  historical events in context, challenges us to reach all students in classrooms, all cultures, races, and/or socio-economic levels. She reminds us of the events outside the classroom that impact the students’ mindset and motivation in school. As members of the education community, we communicate our personal biases through subtle, conscious and unconscious, but powerful messages that ultimately affect every student’s self-efficacy. Join us in reflecting on this topic in an effort to maximize student learning and achievement and identify strategies to that effect.

Dr. Duchess Harris is author of the following books for students:  Hidden Human Computers, Black Lives Matter, Race and Policing.

Dr. Harris has a Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Minnesota and a Juris Doctorate with expertise in Civil Rights Law. She is a Professor of American Studies at Macalester College. She was motivated to write Hidden Human Computers that the movie, Hidden Figures is based upon, as her grandmother was one of the African American women who worked for NASA.
