April 19, 2017

Workshop/Course Description Participants will build on the information presented in past  mentoring workshops and shareshops.  We will address the weaknesses continuing to be problematic on the EIPA results for the current mentees.  We will identify tools and resources to address those areas and how to best present them to the non-certified staff for continued growth over the summer months.  We will engage in discussion of workshops we could offer next school year and what will be needed to enhance those skills and better prepare for EIPA testing success.  In this workshop we will review the current Minnesota educational interpreter laws and how we need to proceed with the proper paperwork to keep all in compliance as we wait for results from Spring testing.  We will utilize the MDE website and work through a mock extension filing so as to be sure that all mentors and their non-certified staff not only understand what is expected of them but where to find it and how to file in accordance with the law.

Educational Objectives: Describe actions by participants DURING the workshop that will demonstrate comprehension and integration of information presented.

  • Identify areas of concern still showing up on EIPA results and how to address them both in individual mentoring sessions as well as a regional perspective.
  • Will discuss, identify, and create tools that have shown to be successful for non-certified staff as they try to maintain or improve upon their professional development through the summer months.
  • Will leave with a working knowledge of how to navigate the EIPA website, where to find materials in the Judy Wolff library, and on the web to encourage those not yet certified to continue to work on their skills.
  • Review the law and access the MDE website to have a working knowledge of where to find the extension paperwork and what is required of each non-certified staff member as well as the mentor.
  • Write a “mock” extension request so as to leave with an understanding of MDE expectations to ensure an extension is granted for non-certified staff.
