THIS WORKSHOP HAS BEEN CANCELLED. Setting Up Systems of Success for Bicultural Liaisons — Leadership Session: Moving Beyond Interpretation

Supervisors of bicultural liaisons will want to join this one-day session to learn how to assess your current district needs, refine or reframe your current structure, and walk away with practical tips on how to optimize and support the roles and responsibilities of existing and future bicultural liaisons.

Bicultural liaisons act as cultural brokers, helping administrators, teachers and school personnel understand cultural differences that could impact academic success, while simultaneously bridging home and school.

Systems of success are essential to the efficiencies of your bicultural liaisons. By adapting systems and information to be culturally sensitive to the needs of bilingual students and their families, bicultural liaisons facilitate academic engagement and achievement.

Leaders of Cultural Liaisons will:

  •  Address unique district needs as they relate to bicultural liaisons as cultural brokers
  • Learn how to develop two-way, reciprocal communication between liaisons, families and schools
  • Identify collective strategies to engage liaisons, district level decision makers and families Investigate ways to bridge liaison work with home, family, and school
  • Identify efficiencies essential to development and expansion of current practices

Facilitator, Jacob Law:

Jake has worked with English Language Learners from diverse backgrounds for over eight years in different capacities including language instruction, teacher training, course and program development as well as language assessment and student placement. Most recently he has worked as a lead liaison for District 622 where he works to support English Language Learners and their families. He is passionate about quality education for ELs that provides linguistically, academically, socially and culturally supportive environments for the whole student.
