Metropolitan Principals' Academy Leadership In-Service Series 2017-2018
Mike Schmoker: Leading With Focus, July 27
Team work time is built into this workshop, so bring a team! Learn from Mike and create a plan before you leave.
In this workshop, leaders will learn precisely where schools should focus their very precious time and resources to ensure that all students are prepared for the demands of college, careers, and citizenship.
Participants will learn about the three most essential elements of good schooling, and how to implement them on a clear, straightforward model. The three elements are:
- Coherent curriculum
- Authentic literacy
- Soundly-structured lessons
Despite their unrivaled power for improving performance in any school, these elements continue to be misunderstood, and grossly under-implemented. Mike believes that they should be our first and highest priority.
8:30 - 1:00 Presentation. 1:00 - 3:00 Team Work Time
The Metropolitan Principals' Academy Leadership Inservice Series consists of four sessions -- one held in the summer and three during the school year.
The summer session provides the opportunity for educational leaders from a district or from a site to attend together, learn together, and plan together. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity.
Mike will be presenting from 8:30 – 1:30. We invite you to continue with your work following the completion of Mike's presentation, discussing and planning how your learning can impact your work. Space is reserved for site or district teams from 1:30 – 3:00.
About the presenter: Dr. Mike Schmoker is a highly regarded speaker, former administrator and teacher. He has written six books (including Leading with Focus: Elevating the Essentials for School and District Improvement, and Focus: Elevating the Essential to Radically Improve Student Learning) and dozens of articles for journals, newspapers, and TIME magazine.
