Silent Cueing & Intro to Deaf Culture

Participants will work together to practice cue reading through a variety of activities.  These activities will include playing games and telling stories.  Participants will also work together to learn more about deaf culture.  We will incorporate videos related to deaf culture and follow-up with related discussion.

Presenters:

Amy Erickson lives in Eagan with her husband and her two girls; ages 8 and 5 years old (all 'hearing').  They love to explore the parks in the area, travel and do everything in between; from horseback riding to soccer practice.  Amy was born with a moderate-severe hearing loss, bilaterally and used an FM system growing up. She has been a TDHH for the past 20 years and has been a HOH/Deaf role model with Hands and Voices for the past 3 years. Amy is passionate about advocacy and education, as she has friends who are hearing, hard of hearing and deaf; Amy states that she is always learning.

Sarah Druley is both a certified ASL interpreter and Cued Language Transliterator.  Sarah has worked in a variety of capacities.  She enjoys interpreting, transliterating, mentoring, and teaching for both children and adults.  As the president of the Cued Speech Association of Minnesota, she seeks to coordinate cued speech education classes and promote cued speech in Minnesota.
