Improve Enrollment and Attendance using Evidence Based Practices

June 27, 2018, 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM, at Metro ECSU

Who should attend: Principals, Assistant Principals, District Leaders, Other Educators

Is your school and district knowledgeable about what root causes are interfering with student learning and attendance, such as their social, emotional or physical health, teaching and learning practices, discipline, and school climate issues?

This workshop will explore the link between attendance, enrollment and school climate, as they relate to academic achievement. Evidenced-based strategies to improve attendance and enrollment will be shared, as well as tools or resources for participants.

Participants will:

· Learn about strategies to improve enrollment and attendance

· Review case studies of strategies in action

· Explore disparities in policy and practice

· Leave with tools and resources

Presenter: Heather Hirsch, School Climate specialist, Minnesota Department of Education. An in-demand workshop presenter across the state of MN, Heather’s work for MDE addresses school climate, school safety, and social emotional learning. She holds a Master’s Degree in Public Health, and a School Climate Leadership Certificate from the National School Climate Center. She is a South Washington County School Board member, and serves on the board of a non-profit aimed at improving literacy and social emotional skills of students.
