Language, Culture & Access: The Role of the Para Educator
Culturally and linguistically diverse learners are on the rise; in fact the EL population has increased by over 300% in the past 20 years. Paraprofessionals work alongside diverse learners in a variety of settings, and are often expected to make mainstream content accessible for linguistically and culturally diverse groups. Are paraprofessionals in your district equipped with the appropriate tools and strategies to support learners from all backgrounds, making language and content accessible for ALL learners?
Outcomes:
- Participants will reflect on the assets of their own learners
- Better understand cultural and linguistically diverse populations
- Understand theory and practices around second language development
- Implement instructional strategies for success of all learners
