Teaching English Language in the Math Content Area: Math for EL Success

Who Should Attend? Content or Grade-Level Teachers, ELL Specialists, Instructional Coaches, Curriculum Specialists, Para-Educators, Teaching Assistants who support English Language Learners in the mainstream.

In this half-day session, you will experience and create math lessons that maximize EL learning in both mathematics and English. The students targeted in the lesson are new to the country and have limited or interrupted educations.

Participants will be able to:

  • Create a math lesson that promotes math understanding and language development
     

Presenter:
Jane Moren has teaching licenses in both ESL and mathematics. She has been teaching EL Basic Math to newcomers including SLIFE (Students with Limited or Interrupted Formal Education) for 14 years. She has developed curriculum that focuses on a deeper understanding of math concepts, while students develop English reading, writing, and speaking. Jane has also co-taught high school math classes.

Cancellation: You can cancel your own registration for an event before the cancellation deadline. (Please check the event information for specific cancellation details.) If the event has a fee, refunds are possible only if cancellation is prior to the deadline. If you do not attend and do not cancel prior to an event, you are still responsible for payment and will be billed.

(BrightWorks requires a notice of 2 business days to cancel a sign language interpreter. If you fail to cancel, we reserve the right to bill your school/district for this expense.)
