BEYOND THE HELP DESK


Establishing school and district student tech teams offer students authentic learning experiences that develop essential technical and career skills, support school technology initiatives and initiatives and drive innovation.

Who: Grade 4-12 school and district leaders and specialists, media specialists, teachers, technology integrationists, Information Technology staff, and others.

What: Beyond the help desk will show you how to design, set up and run your own school or district student tech team program with examples and support materials to get you launched.

HOW DO STUDENTS BENEFIT FROM TECH TEAMS?
Students build their own agency and confidence by sharing their technical expertise with others and serving their school community. By applying critical thinking and problem solving skills to assist others they learn the leadership, teamwork and communication skills critical in the workforce. Students also explore interests and career pathway by connecting with other technology peers and professionals.

GAINING TECHNICAL AND CREATIVE SKILLS:
• Students master troubleshooting and support for hardware, software, mobile apps cloud-based applications
• Create learning materials “how to’s” for teachers and students
• Lead into certifications, advanced IT training, and credit
• Learn IT systems and support processes

DEVELOPING CAREER AND ACADEMIC SKILLS:
• Interacting with clients and collaborate with peers
• Customer service and support
• Technical writing and publishing
• Teamwork, communication, leadership

HOW WILL DISTRICTS BENEFIT FROM TECH TEAMS?
• Provide peer leadership for the use and adopting of technology
• Cost savings by supporting existing technology
• Support for staff with technology expertise in and out of the classroom
• Provide technical support and visibility at district and community events
• Generate innovative ideas and solutions

About the Facilitator: Matt Vernon has over 24 years of experience in K-12 as an educator, program facilitator and specialist. He combines technology with personalized, blended, experiential and constructivist approaches fluidly. He will share his knowledge and experience coordinating St. Paul Public Schools Genius Squad student tech teams program through a period of increased growth and engagement.

Please Note: If an invoice is required, an additional fee of $10 will apply. 

Cancellation: You can cancel your own registration for an event before the cancellation deadline. (Please check the event information for specific cancellation details.) If the event has a fee, refunds are possible only if cancellation is prior to the deadline. If you do not attend and do not cancel prior to an event, you are still responsible for payment and will be billed.

Special Accommodations: Please alert BrightWorks 2-3 weeks prior to the workshop/event if you need special accommodations, including sign language interpreters. (BrightWorks requires a notice of 2 business days to cancel a sign language interpreter. If you fail to cancel, we reserve the right to bill your school/district for this expense.)
