Metropolitan Education Leaders Network (MELN) — Formerly Metropolitan Principals' Academy (MPA). Since creating MPA in 1984, the role of the school leader has changed dramatically and our new name reflects the change. We welcome all leaders in education to our events.

Caroline Hill – Transitioning to an Equity Centered Design Approach

Equity work helps us understand where we are and how we got here, but it is often missing the tools for building a different reality. Join us to explore practices that merge the consciousness of racial equity work with the methodology of design thinking and connect these with systems focused on personalizing learning for learners.

Participants will:

  • Learn how to understand practices that integrate equity and inclusion mindsets, and how to center this work in instructional systems.
  • Explore the “redesigned” design processes, mindsets and tools that support equity work.
  • Learn to assess the impact of decisions for problem solving.

Who should attend: Education leaders – School and district administrators, principals, assistant principals, teacher leaders, teaching and learning directors, superintendents, content and instructional coaches, social workers and other interested educators.

About the Presenter: Carolyn I. Hill lives, works, and designs at the intersection of education, innovation, and equity. Her work inspired the creation of equityXdesign, a powerful design framework that merges the values of equity work and innovation with the intentionality of design:           Her latest venture, 228 Accelerator https://www.228accelerator.com/  catalyzes the redesign of relationships for eliminating inequity. For more than 20 years, Caroline has lived the life cycle of school creation and transformation as a teacher, mentor, coach, founding principal, and investor in innovative school models. She holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering , a M.Ed. in Learning and Teaching, and an M.S. in Administration.
