Unlocking English Learners’ Potential through Leadership and Formative Assessment

Join us for a hands-on, interactive workshop framed around *Unlocking English Learners' Potential: Strategies for Making Content Accessible (Staehr Fenner & Snyder, 2017). Presented by the book’s co-author, Diane-Staehr Fenner.

Participants will:

  • Delve into benefits and strategies for effective formative assessment for ELs by participating in collegial discussions, and validity analyses.
  • Reflect on leadership strengths and develop an action plan for leading colleagues to implement EL strategies and formative assessments.
  • Leave with customized strategies, skills, and tools that can be used immediately to support ELs your own educational contexts.

Who Should Attend? English language learner teachers, content teachers, EL directors, education Leaders, district leadership, instructional coaches, curriculum specialists, coordinators, and all others interested.

*Participants have the option to purchase Unlocking English Learners' Potential: Strategies for Making Content Accessible for a discounted fee of $23.

Diane Staehr Fenner, Ph.D. is the president of SupportEd, LLC and serves as project lead for all the team’s work providing EL professional development, programmatic support, curriculum design, and research to school districts, states, organizations, and the U.S. Department of Education. She is an author of four books on EL education, a blogger on EL instructional strategies for the Colorín Colorado website, and a frequent keynote presenter on EL advocacy, leadership and strategies at National conferences. Her latest book is the bestselling Unlocking English Learners’ Potential: Strategies for Making Content Accessible, co-authored with her colleague Dr. Sydney Snyder. Diane refined her expertise in conducting research on EL practice and policy at George Washington University’s Center for Excellence and Equity in Education. She spent a decade as an ESOL teacher, Spanish/English dual language assessment teacher for Els in the pre-referral process for special education evaluation, and ESOL assessment specialist in Fairfax County Public Schools, VA.

Cancellation: You can cancel your own registration for an event before the cancellation deadline. (Please check the event information for specific cancellation details.) If the event has a fee, refunds are possible only if cancellation is prior to the deadline. If you do not attend and do not cancel prior to an event, you are still responsible for payment and will be billed.
