Scaling Up Restorative Justice: Digging Deeper into Proven Practices and Challenges in Implementation
Dec 11, 2018, 8:30 AM 0- 3:30 PM
This workshop is designed for teams who have some experience and would like ideas and strategies to go further.
We know that “it is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men” (Frederick Douglass, 1855), but we often struggle in building these communities with others. Join us to examine restorative approaches and other proven practices that impact your interactions with youth. Expand your repertoire of strategies for building capacity through leadership and structural changes.
Participants will:
· Analyze key components important to sustainability of restorative justice
· Explore strategies to make the paradigm shift (head and heart) to a restorative culture at your school
· Discuss common challenges and solutions encountered in implementation, including those your team has identified
· Create team goals to reboot or scale up at your site
About the presenter: Carol Markham-Cousins is a life-long educator dedicated to working toward equity, access and excellence within communities. As a principal, Carol has successfully turned around failing schools by building teams that have created and implemented positive cultural change. Carol has customized restorative practice trainings for urban, suburban and rural schools, the justice system, and various community organizations. With proven experience in assessing complex systems and cultures, she leads through coaching and mentoring staff, teachers, and community members to maximize outcomes.
This workshop is best with a team including: school and district administrators, principals, assistant principals, teacher leaders, social workers, psychologists, superintendents, and other interested educators.
