Advanced Cued English Receptive Skills

Date:  March 2 & 3, 2019
Time:  9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Fee:  $60.00 (includes light lunch)

This two-day course provides participants with opportunities to interact silently through cued English. Games and silently-presented texts will enhance receptive fluency and focus on aspects of non-model cueing and voicing strategies.

Presenter: Thomas Shull, TSC: 4, M.S., CCC-SLP has worked in the field of cued language transliteration for over 30 years. He achieved the highest levels awarded to transliterators by the TECUnit’s CLT National Certification Examination and the state of Virginia’s Quality Assurance Screening. Tom is also passionate about teaching. He has been a transliterator educator with Language Matters since 1997 and designed three series of courses which he presents nationally – cueing mechanics, receptive skills, and transliterator test preparation. He is one of the founders of DailyCues.com – an online resource for the cueing community and can be seen as one of the cuers in its Cued English Dictionary. His professional interests include foreign adaptations of Cued Speech. He has taught advanced courses in British Cued Speech in England for the CS Association UK and he teaches annually in France for the Association de Langage Parlé Complété. In 2015, he devised the adaptation for the Amharic Language, which he teaches in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Tom currently works as a speech-language therapist for the Boston Public Schools and has a private practice specializing in accent modification. He is adjunct faculty at Emerson College and the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions, where he teaches phonetics.
