This summer, Monticello will be hosting a PLC 2.0 workshop, organized by FIRST Education. The company has agreed to provide a preview workshop for a low cost on May 1 at Metro ECSU. Though it is short notice, we believe this event is worth exploring.  This workshop is designed for district leaders to learn more about the PLC 2.0 model and decide who from the leadership team should attend the August workshop.

PLC 2.0 Ignite Workshop: “Collaboration for Impact”

Schools across North America have invested time, effort and resources into creating collaboration time and developing intervention systems to support the needs of all learners. And while the research on educators collaborating to examine and improve their practice is clear, the practice of educators working together and the impact this collaboration has on changing the learning experience for students and educators is less conclusive. School learning communities continue to look for practical tools and support to deepen their impact, all while living the realities of today’s demands as an educator.  PLC 2.0 moves districts and schools beyond research to PRACTICE and OBSERVABLE IMPACT--the type of impact that we can observe in our classrooms.

Grounded in the foundational elements that make professional learning communities successful (culture, relationships, equity and leadership), Garth Larson (and Cale Birk, virtually) will take school and district leaders through the following PLC 2.0 questions to maximize observable impact in their own context:

  •  What’s our vision of a learner?
  •  What’s our reality?
  •  What’s our learning?
  •  What’s our observable impact?
  •  What’s our customized support?

During this interactive, hands-on workshop, participants will explore the PLC 2.0 model and understand how it can help educators move from research to practice to OBSERVABLE IMPACT within every classroom.

About the Presenter/Thought Leader of PLC 2.0: Garth Larson, Ed.D is the Co-Founder and President of FIRST Educational Resources, CEO of Challenging Learning USA, and part-time Director of Educator Effectiveness for the Winneconne Community School District in northeast Wisconsin. Garth previously sat on the board of directors for ASCD Wisconsin; he serves on the K-12 Advisory Council for Education for the University of WI, Oshkosh; and also serves as an adjunct faculty member for educational courses offered through Dominican University of CA and the University of WI, Oshkosh.

Garth has previously worked as the Director of Learning for the Winneconne Community School district (one of the highest performing school districts in Wisconsin), was an elementary principal in two separate northeast Wisconsin school districts, and started his career in education as a high school speech and English teacher. In 2011, Garth formed Wisconsin Educational Resources (now FIRST) with a focus of improving student learning across the United States. Since 2011, over 1500 school districts throughout the country have become partnership districts with his company.

Garth currently consults to school districts around North America and provides customized professional development around a variety of topics, mainly Professional Learning Communities, Response to Intervention/Multi-Tiered Systems of Support, Learner-Centered Grading Practices, and School Improvement.
