Holding Difficult and Professional Conversations, with Dr. John Eller

Conversations with individuals about difficult issues can be a concern for us as leaders. Gain the skills and confidence to take on problematic situations and conduct those challenging conversations with practical, research proven strategies that you can use immediately.

Participants will learn:

  • Potential causes behind resistance and anger
  • Methods to de-escalate emotions and conflict in conversations
  • Strategies to help teams/individuals navigate change
  • Practice in using templates to plan and deliver difficult and growth related conversations

About the Presenter:  @jellerthree  Dr. John Eller is a dynamic and highly sought-after speaker and consultant, working with educational organizations, government agencies, and businesses in the areas of conflict resolution, dealing with difficult people, strategic planning, and school improvement. He is also an effectiveness coach, helping educators successfully implement programs and manage change. He has been in education for over 30 years serving as teacher, principal, assistant superintendent for curriculum and learning, MN ASCD executive director, and college professor. Eller is a best-selling author. Recent books include Working with Difficult and Resistant Staff, Working with and Evaluating Difficult School Employees, Creative Strategies to Transform School Culture, Energizing Staff Meetings, Effective Group Facilitation in Education, Score to Soar: Moving Teachers from Evaluation to Professional Growth, and Flip this School: How to Lead the Turnaround Process. 

Who Should Attend: Education leaders – school and district administrators, principals, assistant principals, teacher leaders, teaching and learning directors, superintendents, content and instructional coaches, and other interested educators.

Due to a glitch in the registration system, MELN event fees do not not display accurately. MELN members within tier attend at no cost; over-tier $125/person. MELN non-members $175/person. Feel free to contact Susan, 612-638-1543,  susan.frame@metroecsu.org, for membership tier information.

$10 processing fee on all invoices. We invoice everyone from whom we have not received payment, 30 days after the event. To avoid the processing fee, please submit your payment before March 12.

Cancellation: You can cancel your own registration for an event before the cancellation deadline. (Please check the event information for specific cancellation details.) If the event has a fee, refunds are possible only if cancellation is prior to the deadline. If you do not attend and do not cancel prior to an event, you are still responsible for payment and will be billed.

Special Accommodations: Please alert BrightWorks 2-3 weeks prior to the workshop/event if you need special accommodations, including sign language interpreters. (BrightWorks requires a notice of 2 business days to cancel a sign language interpreter. If you fail to cancel, we reserve the right to bill your school/district for this expense.) Update your profile as needed. Special accommodations are not included with each registration, but are stored in your profile until you make changes.
