Workshop description:

In this workshop participants will learn some of the major issues that impact the mental health of D/DB/HH students.  Participants will learn about how those issues can show up in ASL and we will discuss resources to follow up if interpreters notice these features. Language deprivation being one of the largest factors that impacts mental health participants will practice ASL approaches that can enhance student communication.

Presenter:   Bridget Sabatke, MS, NIC-Master, QMHI-S, EIPA 4.0

has been interpreting since 2005.  Her first position was as an educational interpreter. After getting a degree in interpreter education she went on to teach and present on educational interpreting around the US.  Since 2015 Bridget has specialized in mental health interpreting and supervises other interpreters working towards getting their Qualified Mental Health Interpreting certification.  She currently works at St. Catherine University teaching in the undergraduate program.  In her spare time, Bridget enjoys time with her family, friends, and fur kids.
