Exploring Cued Language Part 1

Cue Reading Activities (morning session, 9am-noon)
Practice cue reading skills with Angela Zellen during our morning session.  Angela will focus on development of cue reading skills through games, silent activities, and voicing practice.

Speech and Language Development in DHH Learners: How Cued Speech is a Game-Changer (Afternoon session, 12:30-2:30pm)
Instructor Heather Stoesz will lead the afternoon session as we dive into understanding that cued speech is a game-changer in speech and language development for deaf and hard-of -hearing learners. 

Presenters:
Angela Zellen is fluent in both ASL and cued speech. She was born with a hearing loss. She first started to learn ASL until cued speech was introduced in preschool at the age of three. Angela knows both cued speech and ASL have contributed to her ability to understand English and to communicate with deaf/hh peers. Angela is currently attending college to pursue a clinical social worker degree. Angela enjoys volleyball, college, meeting new people, psychology, making crafts, attending workshops and many more. Angela is an advocate for cued speech.

Heather Stoesz, MA/CCC-SLP began her career as a clinical Speech-Language Pathologist working with stroke survivors. For the past 23 years she has worked in a variety of settings within Intermediate School District 917, but has specialized in working with students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing. She received her BA in Education and her MA in Communicative Disorders and Sciences from Wichita State University in Wichita, KS. She was a member of the ISD 917 staff when the DHH program began investigating and ultimately implementing Cued Speech/Cued American English in their program. She has given numerous presentations on the role of Cued Speech/Cued American English for the development of phonological awareness, phonemic awareness and the evaluation of Deaf/Hard of Hearing Learners at the local, state, and national level.

CEU Hours:  5.0 TECUnit CEH's (pending approval)

If the event has a fee, refunds are possible only if cancellation is prior to the deadline. If you do not attend and do not cancel prior to an event, you are still responsible for payment and will be billed.
