Workshop description:  Elections and the legislative process dominate the news in today’s society. This workshop will review how an idea becomes a bill that becomes a law. The workshop will also go over some election concepts and signs. There will be frequent mention of caucuses, primaries, budgets, and vetoes in the classroom – let’s make sure we understand the systems at work and communicate clearly and effectively the message to increase civic awareness and engagement with deaf, deafblind and hard of hearing students.  Presentation will be presented in spoken English.

Presenter: Emory David Dively is an NIC: Master ASL interpreter. He has operated small and large agencies and consulted with interpreting agencies across the US. Dively has an M.A. in Communication & Leadership from Gonzaga University and is currently working towards his Ph.D. in Leadership Studies. He is the Deputy Director at the Minnesota Commission of the Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing.

CEU Hours: 2 hours/ .2 CEUS RID hours
