Statewide Physical/Health Disabilities & TBI CoP Meeting

Keynote
Epilepsy is a medical diagnosis that is established as an acute or chronic health condition. Newly passed legislation requires Minnesota schools to become “Seizure Smart.” By the 2022-2023 school year, schools in Minnesota must:

  • Have one school personnel member, who is on site all day, be trained in proper Seizure Recognition and Response.
  • Have a Seizure Action Plan in place for each student with epilepsy/seizures.
  • Have seizure training materials available and accessible to all staff members.

The following two topics will be discussed to further understanding of the current legislation.

  • Seizure Smart Schools, Sara Goodno, Advocacy and Public Policy Manager - Epilepsy Foundation, Minnesota
  • Seizure Recognition and Response, Angela Bowles Edwards, East Metro Regional Outreach Manager - Epilepsy Foundation, Minnesota
