Region 11 OT Community of Practice

Sponsored by Regional Low Incidence Projects - Region 11

Meeting Agenda:

1:00 – 1:30 Introductions & CoP Review & Goals (Kayna)

1:30 – 3:00 Mental health in school-based practice: The role of occupational therapy in mental health promotion - Sarah Greene

Description of Presentation: To fully participate in occupations, we require the foundational skills of mental health and well-being. We know this as occupational therapy practitioners, but how do we put this into our daily practice within the schools we serve? This presentation will help outline how our background, training, and ideas should be used to promote positive mental health in schools. This training will introduce resources, laws, advocacy tools, intervention ideas, and more to help empower occupational therapy practitioners to understand and advocate for their crucial role in mental health.

Sarah Greene, OTD, OTR/L, has been a practicing occupational therapist for 20 years, recently completing her post-professional doctorate in occupational therapy (May 2021), with a focus on mental health and adolescents within the school-based setting. Through years of practice, she has seen the needs of students (all students) change. She has a passion to help other practitioners feel empowered to fully embrace our scope of practice in addressing mental health across all settings.
