Let's Go D.E.E.P.! with Calvin Terrell

To strengthen educator/institutional capacities to proactively build nurturing learning cultures that employ effective restorative practices, culturally relevant pedagogical approaches, potent racial intersectional identity development for all stakeholders, and socially relevant community building.

Target Audience: District adminstrators, principals, equity leadership teams, teaching and learning directors, cultural liaisons and any others focused on developing equity plans.

What are the focus areas?

  • Personal Evolution
  • · Interpersonal Collaboration and Elevating Student Voice
  • Everyone has a role: district leaders, school boards, community allies, school leaders, educators, parents/families
  • Elevating student voice: the power of student voice and creating safe spaces and systems for student voices to be heard
  • Operational Outcomes
    • Minnesota Equity in Action Framework. This framework focuses on five key equity priorities and offers concrete strategies and recommendations – grounded in authentic partnership – for strengthening leadership in communities to produce more equitable outcomes for students
      • Equity Priority #1: Address Access and Resource Inequities
      • Equity Priority #2: Recruit and Retain a Diverse, Culturally Responsive Teaching Force
      • Equity Priority #3: Eliminate Disproportionate Suspension and Expulsion Rates
      • Equity Priority #4: Embed Cultural Competence in Systemwide Educational Practices
      • Equity Priority #5: Engage and Partner with Parents/Families and Community Allies

Participants will:

  • Develop an effective Equity Plan
  • Introduce educators and students to simple and profound ways other educational institutions have moved the SEL Equity "needle" from deficits and disparities to collaborative communities of justice for all
  • With Calvin's Social Centric Global Literacy curriculum, we will focus on three lines of action:
    • Personal evolution
    • Interpersonal collaboration
    • Operational outcomes focused on the Minnesota Equity in Action Framework
