Shifting the Balance: Six ways to Bring the Science of Reading into the Balanced Literacy Classroom

"What are the critical elements of the science of reading and how do I teach them effectively to all of my students?"

If this is the question you want to be able to answer and effectively do, join this group of educators in a 2-day course as we explore how the authors of Shifting the Balance skillfully explain the science of reading, courageously examine some long-held balanced literacy practices, and guide us to make the shifts in our instructional pedagogy.

As a reflective practitioner, you will examine current practices in your classroom and become empowered to implement six key shifts for instruction, including recommitting to phonemic awareness, reimagining phonics, revising high-frequency words, reinventing miscue analysis, and reconsidering texts for beginning readers.

Book "Shifting the Balance: 6 Ways to Bring Science of Reading into the Balanced Literacy Classroom" included.

Target Audience: K-5 Teachers, Administrators, Literacy Coaches, Instructional Coaches, Reading Interventionists, SPED Teacher

Facilitator: Amy Pierce
