MTSS Deconstructed - A Model for Continuous Improvement to move from a Crisis Response to Proactive and Predictable Responses

Target Audience: Preferable school teams: Administrator, School Psychologist, Social Worker, Behavior Intervention Specialists, MTSS Team Reps

This training will help you move from operating in crisis mode to proactive and predictable responses in meeting the needs of your students. These past few years have been disruptive and many have been in reactive, rather than proactive mode. Through interactive and experiential group participation, we will work with you to:

• Revisit your current practices (tiers of intervention)

• What resources are in place?

• What processes do you have in place to move students from tier to tier? 

• What data points do you have in place, or need to establish, to optimize your system?

• What barriers do you see for implementing operational processes?

• Develop an action plan prioritizing next steps.

Dr. Charlene Myklebust, Psy.D., holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Adler University in Chicago and earned her educational administration credentials from the University of Minnesota. She is President and Educational Leadership Consultant with EQ Learn, LLC and Stone Arch Learning, LLC, providing live and on-line continuing education and staff development services. Char has served as a regular and special education teacher, public school administrator, mental and chemical health provider, and Executive Director of Mental Health and Partnerships in Intermediate District 287. She is a STARR Commonwealth Certified Trauma and Resilience Trainer.

Char was recognized for "Outstanding Service" by the Minnesota Association for Children's Mental Health (MACMH) and received the "Educator of the Year” award from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI-MN). She contributed to the development of Mind UP, a Goldie Hawn Foundation Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum for children and adolescents. Her alma mater, Adler University in Chicago, recognized her as “Alumni of the Year” in 2020.

Dr. Myklebust speaks at national and international conferences about topics concerning children’s mental health, the school-to-prison pipeline, the impact of white privilege and exclusionary disciplinary practices on BIPOC and LGBTQ+ students, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), trauma-informed education, resilience, Restorative Practices (RP), MTSS, social emotional learning (SEL), brain-based education, and educational staff wellness.

Her current projects involve consulting with Osseo Area Schools and providing program evaluation and staff development services for school districts. She is a Covid Workforce Recovery Grant Mental Health and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Consultant with BrightWorks, formerly Metro ECSU. Char was recently appointed to oversee the Minnesota Department of Human Services School-based Youth Diversion Program Grant, designed to divert students from school arrests and subsequent incarceration to mental health services, chemical health interventions, and Restorative Practices.

Chris Streiff Oji was born and raised in Los Angeles, California but after 31 years considers Minnesota to be home. She has 27 years of experience in Education in Minnesota serving as a teacher K-12, middle and elementary school building administrator. She led professional development and continuous improvement at the district level for the Rochester Public Schools where she assisted schools in developing their strategic focus with an equity lens. She has been an equity advocate addressing gaps with measurable results both academically and behaviorally at both the district and building level. She developed the FISH! For Schools Curriculum and consulted with school districts across the U.S. to improve culture and climate in schools. Chris completed the NAESP Leadership Immersion Institute on coaching and mentoring principals. She currently serves as the Professional Development Strategist for BrightWorks.
