In this art talk, Beverly Tipton Hammond shares the powerful historical connection between African Women's Head Dress and the hats worn today in the church by African American Women, The faith, the food, the music, and the arts are all entwined in the story. The struggle and oppression during the years of enslavement continues today, but as an undercurrent of disdain. How has fasion empowered women to mobilize for racial justice and how do we find healing for ravaged souls?

Beverly Tipton Hammond is an ordained elder, dancer, choreographer, visual artist, singer, songwriter, art curator and entrepreneur. She began painting 14 years ago as a hobby and has over 200 paintings. Her medium is acrylic, ink marker on canvas and wood, as well as collage. Her artwork was featured in the Hennepin County Employee Exhibit in 2017 and most recently her "Hattitude Series" the Minnesota African American Heritage Museum & Gallery in the "Grace Exhibit" in 2018-2019.
