You Belong Here! Successful Strategies for Students and Family Engagement

Facilitators: Marnita Schroedl and Lauren Williams

Audience: Teachers, Principals, District Administrators, Paraprofessionals, Support Staff, Others seeking to upskill best practices for inspiring and sustaining student and family engagement.

Have you got big dreams of having every family involved in back to school night? Want concrete practices to inspire and sustain student groups? In the You Belong Here practicum you'll learn how to activate family/community engagement throughcatalyzing and sustaining student engagement through Intentional Social Interaction ("IZI"). IZI's social emotional tool kit supports student skill development, increasing belonging in most educational environments. This practice-based model empowers students to lead and increase engagement through consistent embodied practice. The practices you'll adopt will ignite students to inspire authentic connections and understanding across grades, social groups and cultures of origin, this inclusive process welcomes everyone.

Increased student engagement ultimately increases family/community involvement, creating cycles of increasing engagement. The first step towards increased engagement is student involvement. Developing leadership through relationships, we've received voluntary reports from educators that as a result of IZI older students are becoming mentors to younger students, teachers are feeling more connected, classroom participation and grades are improving. You'll hear stories of impact while identifying engagement strategies that will work in your own buildings to build and support family engagement.

Get everything you need to have students lead two engaged lunchroom conversations with your guidance. This class includes access to pre-designed IZI tools wuch as question cards, sticky stats, and more. Recognizing that schools have quick turnover, you'll learn tips for sparking engagement quickly, gain access to adaptable and flexible tools that can easily be used in the classroom or staff meetings.

Martina's Table and its founder, Marnita Schroedl, have more than 18 years of training, diversity, and inclusive belonging expertise. Lauren Williams,  MT's Director of training and projects, a veteran of MT of more than 8 years, leads an engaging and spirited cross-cultural training team of four who have been teaching their proprietary model of Intentional Social Interaction (IZI) both individually and as a group for more than 8 years.
