This workshop provides a basic understanding of theater and musical interpreting with an overview of theater vocabulary, ?how-to? tips and tools to interpret songs, theater, and musicals.
Participants will learn how to prepare for a theatrical production, use characterization, effectively team interpret when interpreting theater, ?rhyme? in ASL, learn tips for interpreting children's songs, use storytelling through music. Discussion on how theatrical and musical interpreting differs from everyday interpreting, and what Deaf and hard-of-hearing audience members are typically looking for when watching songs, concerts, and live theater.
Objectives:
1) Identify the parts of a theater an define basic theater terms
2) Review effective steps/tools for preparing for an interpreted music and/or theater production.
3) Review and discuss best practice for teaming in theater/concert situations.
4) Demonstrate the ability to apply presented material to interpreted plays and skits in a K-12 setting.
5) Review characterization, rhyming, and storytelling techniques in ASL form
