Rev Your Engine: ASL Tune-Up
This presentation aims to support educational interpreters' ability to effectively use depiction. Topics addressed include visualization, spatial organization, mapping, and processing time. Opportunities to play with language in a variety of hands-on activities.
Objectives:
1. Review ASL visualization skills and how to apply them to classroom work.
2. Discuss and define spatial organization and mapping skills and how to incorporate them into the interpreted message.
3. Identify opportunities to use depiction in the classroom lecture.
4. Demonstrate the ability to break away from the English grammar and appropriately apply depiction and spatial mapping to their work.
Interpreting in Today's Society
Objectives:
1. Discuss social media postings and identify tenets in the code of professional conduct that might be violated.
2. Learn and practice using/interpreting 10 slang words in ASL and English.
3. Learn to identify smart phone apps, what they do, what the sign is,and how deaf students use them.

Cancellation: You can cancel your own registration for an event before the cancellation deadline. (Please check the event information for specific cancellation details.) If the event has a fee, refunds are possible only if cancellation is prior to the deadline. If you do not attend and do not cancel prior to an event, you are still responsible for payment and will be billed.

(BrightWorks requires a notice of 2 business days to cancel a sign language interpreter. If you fail to cancel, we reserve the right to bill your school/district for this expense.)
