Three Day Mathematics Series: Come for one, two, or three days. Jan 10, Feb 6, Mar 23, 2017.
Many districts are engaged in work to address racially conscious, socially just systems. This series of workshops will build on this culturally responsive work, drilling deeper to apply the concepts specifically to Math. Attendees will delve into effective teaching practices of mathematics to empower educators and ensure mathematical success for each and every learner, as described in "Principles to Action" by NCTM.
Day 2-Feb 6 The Impact of Identity/Access and Equity
A. Consider the impact of identity on mathematical success.
B. Explore rich mathematical tasks to engage students in cognitively demanding mathematics.
C. Identify practices that support socially marginalized and emerging bilingual students.
Day 1-Jan 10 Mathematical Mindsets/Teaching and Learning
Day 3-Mar 23 The Danger of the Single Story/Curriculum and Assessment
