The N-Word in Other Words: Addressing Hate Speech to Heal Historical Racial Trauma

Target Audience: Principals, Asst. Principals, Superintendents, Asst. Superintendents, Equity Leaders (includes coordinators, specialists and directors); Dean of Students, School Board Members

The N-word is one of the most painful, powerful, and complex words in the English language being used often by all colors/identities of children, youth, and adults. Many educators and parents/guardians are hurt, confused, and frustrated with what is happening with the N-Word, especially Black/African American families and those of any identity that care about racial healing. The N-Word in Other Words is a simple, yet profound thirty four page curriculum to proactively address racial literacy and effectively respond to hate speech, especially around the use of the N-Word. This curriculum was developed by Calvin Terrell, who has used pieces of it in varying ways for more than twenty five years throughout the United States to generate thrive. This is a gift to you and your community/organization from Calvin. He believes accessibility is essential for achieving justice for all in the World’s Peoples.

The core sections of the N-Word in Other Words curriculum are:

  • A pre / post rest
  • Etymology
  • History
  • Racial Literacy
  • Hip Hop
  • False Dichotomy

If you would like to be trained on how to use The N-Word in Other Words curriculum effectively in any setting (classroom, group, family discussion, place of worship, team, etc.), that is available for a fee. Please be advised that this curriculum contains racial slurs and derogatory language that has been used historically in hate speech, as well as art. The presence of these words is for educational purposes.
